This is for me to record (and then remember!) what I am doing in the garden to make it more friendly to the environment. I have been inspired by the books I’ve read (Isabella Tree, James Rebanks, Dave Goulson etc) to rethink my relationship with the environment but whereas they have a country estate/ a Lake District fell farm etc, I have:
- A small back garden
- A balcony
- Some pots in the front yard (couple of feet wide)
- A bigger front garden on my street I’m borrowing from someone else
The back garden isn’t really mine as I have to share it with the family. And the front garden is full of bikes.
I know improving it will make me happy but I wonder if you can REALLY do stuff that matters in a such a small space. I’m not going to end up with fieldfares and hares no matter what I do. I also have:
- Gardening Club, which is meant to be about helping my community but is actually fun and teaches me things like how to sharpen secateurs and pot on.
- The Red Cross Garden at the Refugee Centre. It’s not mine but I am looking after it til the Refugees can come back and garden it themselves. It used to be veg, but I don’t know how to grow veg and don’t have much time, so I am trying to seed it full of flowers. Then they can put it back to veg later.
